Supported Housing

The Queen Victoria Women’s Centre (QVWC) is a not-for-profit organisation that provides information, support and resources for Victorian women and women's organisations. Part of the Centre's vision, purpose and objectives is to continue to develop a diverse range of programs, training and services that help women and women's organisations build their capacity and reach their full potential. The Centre operates from the former Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital, which was run for women by women and was the first of its kind in Victoria.

 


ALICE'S COTTAGES INC. NSW is a medium-term, supported  housing scheme for women with a history of psychiatric illness and/or psychological distress who have dependent children in their care. This means that there is a complicated referral procedure unsuited for crisis situations. Each family is accommodated in their own house within the Blacktown LGA. Blacktown is an Outer Western suburb of Sydney with its own crisis care team and is set to be one of the largest growth areas of New South Wales.

 

Drug, Alcohol & Gambling Advice & Services

Relationships Australia aims to minimise the harm caused by gambling by:

  • providing counselling (including financial counselling) and information to help people with problem gambling.
  • providing community education resources and training
  • making self-help kits and information available
  • working with the governments, the gambling industry, private sector organisations, community agencies and groups, and researchers to develop responsible gambling policies and regulation.

Gambling becomes a problem if someone spends more time or money than they can afford or it is having a negative impact on their relationships.

ADIN is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing as part of the National Illicit Drug Strategy and managed by the Australian Drug Foundation.

The NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet Office for Women is a small, strategic unit which develops programs, policies and projects to the benefit of all women in NSW.

The Office for Women is the key advisor to the State Government on policies which impact directly on women. It also provides a valuable role in contributing to discussions on important social and economic issues relevant to women.

EOWA is a statutory authority located within the portfolio of the Australian Commonwealth Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).

EOWA’s role is to administer the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 (Commonwealth) and through education, assist organisations to achieve equal opportunity for women. EOWA works with employers to improve equal opportunity outcomes for women in the workplace by:
  • Delivering practical solutions;
  • Building strategic partnerships; and
  • Leading public debate to increase the rate of change.


The Australian Government Office for Women has a number of roles. It:

  • Provides high level (policy and other) advice to the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Women's Issues
  • Administers programmes, including most significantly programmes to combat domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Advises on legislative issues relating to women
  • Provides the principal focus on consultation between the women's sector and government; and
  • Represents government at national and international forums on women's issues, such as the United Nations.

 


The Office for Children was established in March 2005, and is one of a series of structural changes announced in Putting Children First … the next steps, the Government's response to the report of the Premier's Children's Advisory Committee, Joining the dots.

The Office is responsible to the Minister for Children, the Hon Lisa Neville MP, and the Minister for Community Services, the Hon Gavin Jennings MLC.

Our task is to lead action across Government and with the community to give every child every chance; to assure and improve the safety, health, development, learning and wellbeing of all Victoria's children – and particularly those children and young people who are faring poorly, those at risk of harm and those at risk of harming others.
